At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, private sectors, and NGOs came together to discuss how to reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet. Following the Conference, Rio+20 released an outcome document entitled "The Future We Want" a compromise of participating countries who strive to promote a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication. The outcome document supported the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of measurable targets aimed at promoting sustainable development globally. Within this spirit, the Tuanku Jaafar Conference (TJC) 2017 was organized to bring together academicians experts, and practitioners to share and discuss their perspectives on governance issues toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It featured five Keynote Addresses by renowned speakers from around the world to discuss relevant issues pertaining to the SDGs. This book comprises the keynote speeches which have been edited for the benefit of all readers. It represents multiple perspectives on SDGs, ranging from a theological stance on SDGs to human rights issues towards achieving SOG food security and consumption behavior.
